The 30-second summary

The service is free and provided as is, with no warranty.
Only control a device when its owner agrees. Using this to access someone else's device without their knowledge is the most serious violation here.
You are responsible for what you do on other people's devices, and for what you send.
We cannot read your content, so we also cannot moderate it — the responsibility is yours.
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time.

1. Accepting these terms

Creating an account or using Chat Remote means you agree to this document and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

If you are using it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation.

2. What the service is

Chat Remote lets one computer or phone view and control the screen of another, along with messaging, voice calls, video calls and file transfer between the two.

Our server acts as an introducer between two devices and checks permissions. The actual content travels directly between the devices and is end-to-end encrypted — details in the Privacy Policy.

Chat Remote's source code is open, and you are free to run your own server. This document applies only to the service running at chatremote.net.

3. Your account

An account is optional — most features work in guest mode.
You must be 13 or older to create an account.
The information you provide must be accurate. Your email must be one you can actually access — losing it means losing your way to recover your password.
You are responsible for keeping your password safe. Anything done from your account is treated as done by you.
If you see signs that your account has been taken over, change your password immediately and tell us.

4. What you must not do

The single most important line in this document: only control a device when its owner knows and agrees. Using Chat Remote to access someone else's device without their knowledge is a serious violation, and in many countries a criminal offence regardless of what these terms say.

You must not use the service to:

Access or control any device you are not authorised to use
Trick anyone into granting control — including by impersonating technical support, bank staff or government officials
Monitor, surveil or record anyone without their knowledge
Install malware, steal data, or take over someone else's accounts
Send unlawful content, child abuse content, or content inciting violence or hatred
Infringe anyone's intellectual property rights
Send spam, harass people, or push files at strangers in bulk
Brute-force passwords or device codes, or attempt to bypass system limits
Overload the server, or automate bulk account creation
Resell the service as your own without disclosing its origin

A warning about scams: there has been a wave of criminals phoning people while posing as technical support, a bank or the police, then walking the victim through installing remote-control software to "check the device". If someone you do not know tells you to install Chat Remote and give them control, stop. No government body or bank asks for that.

5. Your content

The screens, messages, files and calls you transmit through Chat Remote belong to you. We do not own them and claim no right to use them.

Because everything is end-to-end encrypted, we cannot read what you transmit. That also means we cannot filter it, cannot moderate it, and cannot recover anything you lose. Responsibility for content rests entirely with you and the person you are communicating with.

6. Provided as is

Chat Remote is free and provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. Specifically, we do not promise that:

The service will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free
Any two devices will always manage to connect — this also depends on your network, firewall and internet provider
Video quality or latency will meet any particular standard
Data will never be lost

We may change, suspend or discontinue the service at any time. If we shut it down entirely, we will give notice where we reasonably can.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service — including loss of data, loss of profit, or business interruption.

In particular, we are not responsible for what someone else does on your device after you have granted them control. Deciding whom to trust is your decision.

8. Ending an account

You may delete your account at any time under Settings → Delete account.

We may suspend or delete an account where we have reasonable grounds to believe it violates section 4 — especially unauthorised access and fraud. For serious violations we will act immediately and without prior notice.

9. Cost

The service is currently entirely free. If paid features are introduced later, we will say so in advance, and what is free today will not silently become paid.

10. Changes to these terms

When we make changes, we update the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the new version; if you do not accept it, stop using the service and delete your account.

11. Governing law

This document is governed by the laws of Vietnam. Disputes will first be addressed by negotiation; failing that, they will be brought before the competent courts of Vietnam.

12. Severability

If any provision is held invalid, the remaining provisions stay in full force.
